Islam – Chapter 2 “Human = Weak”

Last chapter we talked about how honorable we are as humans.  We mentioned just the fact that we exist is sufficient enough to make us remarkable but then when we include the ability to think, reflect and imagine, we suddenly transcend all beings.  We become undoubtedly extraordinary but most importantly honorable.

Well, now we are going to turn things upside down.  In the next few chapters, we are going to touch on some of our natural qualities.  I figured before we know “Why we are here?”  or “Where we are going?”, we need to know “Who we are?”  As a result, we will spend the next few chapters trying to answer that very same question.   So tighten your ropes and fasten your seatbelts.  It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Alright!!   As humans we are also weak.  If we take a closer look at ourselves, we find we are half intellect (IQ) and half emotion (EQ).  First, IQ.  We are intellectually weak because as individuals we don’t know everything.  We might be an expert in one or two things but never in everything.  Also there are a lot of questions; even collectively, we simply just don’t know and don’t have the answers to.  Lack of knowledge or understanding is a weakness and will definitely result in making the wrong decisions.  On the other hand, we are also emotionally driven.  With every bad news we are hopeless and in despair and with every good news we are overjoyed and proud.  The emotional side of us makes us naturally weak.  Weak because we are always dependent and in need.  And that’s why we are social animals and can’t live by ourselves.  As a result, everyone has a weakness.  Even our imaginary superhero’s have weaknesses.  For example, Superman’s weakness is kryptonite and for Iron man it’s the bits of shrapnel in his chest and also his ego.  So there is no one that doesn’t have a weakness.  It’s who we are, it’s in our DNA.  In the Quran, Allah SWT says “و خلق الانسان ضعيفا” The human being was created weak.  And there is a reason for that of course, we will get into that in future chapters God Willing.
